Letter to Mr. Barack H. Obama

Dear Mr. President,

You came like a rising sun of hope in a bewildered World. You brought back faith that life can, after all, be more meaningful through the avenues of long forgotten principles.

As the  Honorary President of  the Greek - American Organization,  AHEPA Cyprus,  I take the liberty  to humbly address this letter to you, the unquestionable Leader of the World  and pray for help to my little Island, Cyprus, which faces great danger for its very existence.

I have deep appreciation of the American Ideals, Principles, Culture and the Education System.  My father was one of the first European Immigrants to the United States in 1916.  It is proudly recorded, first on the list, in the Ellis’ Island  Official Documents.  Because of this high esteem all my children have studied in the USA  at Harvard, MIT and Boston Universities.  Myself I hold Ph.D.  from Beverley Hills University.  I have also served as  Member of the Executive Council of Harvard School of Public Health in Cyprus.

Your election as  President of the United States of America came as a relief to the Democratic World and in particular for my little undefended Island, Cyprus, which  faces the constant  imminent  threat of Turkey, a dangerous, aggressive  enemy  of colossal military power.  As you know, Turkey, although one of the three guarantors of the independence of the  Republic  of Cyprus,  has brutally  invaded our little, unprotected island in 1974 with a huge army   and conquered 40% of the best and most developed part of the Island, which at the time represented more than 80% of the total natural economical resources of the country,  although Turkish Cypriots (T.C) were only 18% of the population and their contribution to the national economy was only 4.2%.   40,000 Turkish troops are still in Cyprus making life of both Greeks and T.C  unbearable.  This is why tens of thousands  of T.C  go  out  to the streets  demanding that Turkey, its army and the Turkish settlers leave Cyprus.   

During the  invasion, the Turkish army  mercilessly killed over 10,000 innocent civilians, men, women and children and by all kinds of atrocities of the Turkish army, torturing, raping etc, they forcefully expelled   from their  homes and all  their belongings over 200,000 Greeks, the  40%  plus of the total Greek population,  rendering them penniless refugees in their own homeland.   Yet Turkey calls all this massacre and the biblical catastrophy caused to us, as a “peaceful intervention”.   For 37 years, now, Turkey exploits all that wealth,  worth  trillions of dollars.   It  also massively  sells our stolen properties to foreigners, mainly British, making billions,  while  systematically pushing    into  the   occupied areas  all sorts of Muslim  illegal persons  and criminals from all over the world, who are then  infiltrated  into our free areas with a target to adulterate our society with criminals and to change   our demographic status, in order to secure majority and  help the plans of  Turkey   to occupy the whole island.  This is the policy Turkey applies also by infiltrating illegal immigrants (mainly Muslims) into the  European Union  (E.U).

This is  the reason why  Turkey  protracts for nearly half a century the so to say intercommunal negotiations, which is a real fiasco, since it is Turkey itself  in reality which conducts  the negotiations  and the T.C. Negotiator is nothing more than a puppet following  instructions directly from Turkey.

In view of the fact that  the  negotiations are fabricated and are planned  by Turkey never to lead to any fair and viable solution,  please allow me  to present to you, as an alternative, a simple and practical  idea which, if you could consider  and take the initiative to handle,  it would quickly,  easily and justly lead to a fair and viable solution which would stand the time and bring happiness and prosperity to all Cypriots  while saving  the world from a headache that has lasted for so long.  

The  idea  is:

Cyprus being a full member of the Ε.U. is not only entitled but is even obliged to implement the Acquis Communautaire. (A.C).

A.C.  means  the implementation of the three basic human rights:  Free movement,   free  establishment and free ownership of property, plus one person one vote.  These freedoms when applied would amount to an ideal solution for all Cypriots.  It would allow the 200,000  Greek refugees, who are the gist of the Cyprus problem,  as  well as those T.C. who were forced by the Turkish Army to leave their homes and move into the occupied areas, they all would now, under A.C,  return peacefully and safely to their homes and property, which by itself will make everybody happy.    The rules of the A. C.,  its umbrella,  the laws and the supervision of the   E.U.  would fetch peace, security, normal life and prosperity to all.  Progress would then be unrestricted for everyone to develop his initiative and freely plan his future.  The T.C. would surely be happier and would  prosper  in a progressive society.   

A proof that the application of the A. C. will work fine and bring a fair and effective solution for all,  is the fact that this same A.C. fully satisfies the 500,000,000 Europeans of the EU. Turkey, therefore, cannot justifiably  assert that the 100,000 Turkish Cypriots cannot be satisfied under this A.C.   After all, Turkey itself has to respect the A.C. since it strives to join the EU, when it will obligatorily apply A.C. within its territory.

It is all these freedoms and principles, Mr. President, which had helped build the Great American Nation.   We attach great importance to your intervention Mr. President, being sure that in case you approve of this simple and effective solution,  you have the means and the power to make it work. 

A God’s gift has miraculously come these days to Cyprus which may help towards the proposed solution.   Huge deposits of natural gas and oil have been found within  the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone.  Already an American Company,  Noble Energy International is engaged in the drilling in one out of the 13 of our oil field plots. They expect to bring the natural gas to surface by 2014.

Several other companies specializing in the gas and oil exploration  from among sister member States of the E.U. are greatly interested.

The E.U. is in great need for N.G and Oil in order, especially to disengage from Russia as their main supplier now.

It would be a good idea, I believe, to form a Consortium  among American and EU companies, for co-exploitation of our NG and Oil rich deposits in exchange for their respective Governments  support towards applying A.C. as a solution of the Cyprus Problem.

You,   a successful man, whose virtues  have earned for you in record time the USA  Presidency will surely see my point of view and its dynamics, its  practicability and fairness to all,  through the application of the A.C.   Such a quick and lasting solution of this old world problem, will serve the USA interests as well since it will save trillions of dollars and unmeasurable time of the UNO,  the Security Council,  the EU and the U.S.A.  itself.
